Relevant information about the world intellectual property market condition according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

In 2013 the international intellectual property market showed a significant growth.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) statistical database different authorized institutions around the world had received 2 567 900 patent protection applications (+ 9%); 978 300 utility models protection applications (+ 18.2%); 7 045 140 trademarks protection applications (+ 6%) and 1 242 701 industrial designs protection applications (+ 2.5 %%).

The largest share of patent applications traditionally are filed in Asia (58.4%) and North America (23,6%).

The largest amount of trademark filing applications were received in Asia and Europe.

Institutions in Asia (69.4%) and Europe (24%) have received the largest amount of applications for industrial design filing.

Asian regions have shown an absolute leadership in a number of utility models: 93.9% of the world total.

In terms of countries, China is traditionally the most progressive. There have been filed 825 136 patent applications (most in the world) and the largest amount of utility models applications (892 362)
